These numbers (from the above previous chart) were normalized and averaged for each country. Then, the number of different MEs was normalized across all countries. These two figures are then multiplied to get a ME prevalence score. (The raw ME score is the same without normalizing the number of MEs per country). Then, both ME scores to some selected variables were compared, like GDP in $, number of English speakers, etc. to see how strongly correlated they are. The r-squared and p-values are statistical indicators, and can be viewed by hovering over the trend lines. The p-value indicates if there is a significant relationship described by the model, and the R-squared measures the degree to which the data is explained by the model.
Lower p-values indicate more significance, and higher r-squared values indicate a greater percentage of the data points being explained by the model. Both range from 0 to 1.
